Tulsa Timeline
GREENWOOD
a subdued history
Post Massacre
Newspaper with Missing Article Erased History
The knowledge of the Greenwood massacre has been one of the best kept secrets in U.S. history. Many residents of Tulsa have stated that they were unaware of the infamous event. This suppression of history appears to be by design, as evident by the censoring of newspaper articles that have been transferred to microfiche. This seems to be a deliberate act by officials and people in power that participated in or facilitated the massacre, to preserve the image and reputation of the city of Tulsa and the state of Oklahoma. Moreover, over the years, many of the locals that are descendent from massacre, have often expressed an unwillingness to speak of the horrific event out of fear of retaliation by the people that participated in the slaughter, many of whom that were still living in Tulsa.
